Natural Flooring

Natural Flooring in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire (Sisal, Jute, Seagrass, Coir)

Sisal carpets are one of the four types of natural flooring along with Jute, Seagrass & Coir. You may have heard lots of false information regarding sisal and all other types of natural sisal carpets, this is normally a scare tactic due to a lack of knowledge regarding these types of products or not having specialist fitters who can install natural carpets correctly. Deca Design Flooring has been installing natural flooring for the past 10 years and all installations are backed by our fitting guarantee.

Sisal is extremely durable & stain resistant and will require very little long term maintenance. In fact, cleaning small spills couldn’t be easier – just soak a small cloth in warm water and dab the section of carpet with a little club soda. As long as the area is dried straight away (a standard hairdryer usually does the trick), the carpet will remain looking as good as new or you can get specialist cleaning kits which cost about £30 for more information on cleaning sisal carpets click here.

Despite their coarse feel and rough texture, sisal carpets also provide a surprisingly warm, inviting appearance for a standard living area, and its neutral hue makes it suitable for almost any room in the home. However, over exposure to water or moisture might leave it looking a little worse for wear, so it is widely recommended that you leave sisal carpets out of kitchen or bathroom areas.

Jute Carpets in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

Jute carpet is a bast fibre which comes from the inner bark of plants of the genus Cochorous.

The plant is a herbaceous annual which flourishes in hot damp regions of Asia. Jute is the softest fiber from all the ranges of natural carpets so is more suited to bedrooms only and the fibers are not hardwearing enough for high traffic areas such as stairs & main living areas.

Seagrass Carpets in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

As its name implies seagrass is a grass which is grown in China and Vietnam in paddy-like fields. During the growing cycle the paddy fields are flooded with sea water. After harvesting, seagrass is dried and converted into a yarn which is suitable for weaving into a variety of designs. Seagrass floor coverings are naturally stain resistant, antistatic and hard wearing and can be used in most domestic locations and some light contract areas but are not recommended on stairs as they can be slippery.
